Help expand our legal fight against circumcision to more states

We need plaintiffs in Colorado and Illinois to challenge unequal protection laws—here's how you can help us find them.

While Oregon's constitutional challenge moves forward, Intact Global cannot rely on a single case. We need lawsuits in multiple states, which means finding plaintiffs who meet specific criteria. In Colorado, we're searching for individuals under 26 who were circumcised after the state's 1999 FGM law.

"I am very pleasantly surprised that the students I'm meeting now are much more willing to talk about sexual issues and human rights than the students I talked to 10-20 years ago. With very few exceptions, everyone who has talked to me readily agrees that it is wrong to cut the genitals of healthy children—including several Muslim students who completely agree that both boys and girls should be left intact." —Dan Strandjord

Before retiring to Colorado ten years ago, I spent a decade demonstrating at the University of Chicago campus, speaking with thousands of students, faculty, and visitors about genital autonomy. Now I'm back at it, and I must say I'm having a lot of fun talking to young people again after living in a retirement community.

My outreach at Colorado State University has been surprisingly productive—about two dozen people have expressed interest in becoming plaintiffs, though about half don't meet the eligibility criteria due to age or location of their circumcision. Many older students, particularly military veterans now attending college on G.I. benefits, have been deeply disappointed to learn they cannot participate.

The biggest challenge isn't finding people who agree with the mission—it's asking young adults to publicly identify as someone harmed by circumcision. No one has yet followed through by contacting Intact Global, but I still have hope. Even if I don't find plaintiffs immediately, I'm doing useful intactivism and getting people to discuss the issue with their peers.

Intact Global needs all of us to help find plaintiffs. If you have social media skills or connections to relevant communities, please share information about our plaintiff search. Potential plaintiffs can learn more and express interest at intactglobal.org/support/plaintiffs. Every state where we can file strengthens the constitutional argument that all children deserve equal protection.
